1) HELP!

I am a relativly new sunday school teacher (3rd year) and I am beginning to
run out of ideas. Everything on behavior (I teach from 2 yrs. to 7yrs.) I
have most likely exhasted. I have a very rouwdy class and they are beginning
to get out of hand. If you have any sites, or ideas you could give me I
would appreciate it. -jess

2) Giggling During Prayer

<< Do you have any ideas how to stop under 11s from giggling during the prayer
time? >>

Give each child a prayer request from another child to verbally pray about. I have found they are so busy thinking about what to say and when their turn is that there are very few (if any) giggles. We call it "round robin" prayer time.
God bless. Kathleen from DeWitt

3) Giggling During Prayer

> Do you have any ideas how to stop under 11s from giggling during the
> prayer time?

How about asking them to paticipate - each person gets some assignment
for prayer time - maybe they choose, or each is asked to pray for
something that has been discussed during prayer request time before the
prayer begins. Giving them ownership, and seriously discussing the
prayer needs of the group and their loved ones beforehand, seems to help
kids realize that prayer is really important in our lives. Of course,
sometimes the giggles will come anyway, and that's when I'd quietly move
alongside the gigglers, putting a hand on a shoulder, if necessary. That
usually helps to get them back on track. Hope this helps! Blessings, Kit

4) Christmas play ideas

> I am looking for christmas play ideas. Any suggestion would be great.

Hi Amber,
Have you ever listened to the Christmas song the friendly beasts by Garth Brooks?
It is a beautiful song that we acted out for our Christmas program and their were
not to many dry eyes in church! We had a Mary, Jesus, Joseph, 3 kings with wrapped
gifts,2 donkeys, 2 camels, a cow (someone had a cow costume that came in handy), 2 doves, and I can't remember the other animals it has been awhile since I played the song. We had the donkeys and camels wear dark clothing and took knitted caps and added ears and yarn, we braided tails, and painted faces. The doves were the best 2 girls played them and we had them at the back of the church dressed in white tights and white body suits, with wings out of poster board full of silver tinsel and glitter. When their part of the song came on they slowly "flew up the isles to the front of the church to join everyone else. It was really easy and the kids didn't have to remember any lines and it told the true story of Christmas. What more can you ask? Even if you decide not to do this, listen to the song if you have never heard it. It is great! Patty

6) Stop Giggling Kids

In response to this problem, I found that seperating them, sitting between them
or the best solution asking them to pray the minute you catch them giggling
resolves this problem. Vicky - Sunshine Kids Ministry, South Africa.

7) Birthday party for Jesus

Last year we had a birthday party for Jesus for the kids with a puppet show, games, crafts, a birthday cake, and goodie bags. This year the event needs to be church-wide. We will still have the puppet show and birthday cake. Does anyone have suggestions for making the other activities more multigenerational/ family-oriented? Kathy

8) Thank you

Thank you so very much for sending me the many helps in your publication.
I used the pumpkin parable for the junior sermon in church and it was
well received by the adults as well as the children. I look forward to
each new letter and I am keeping all of them. Doris Stahler

9) Easy Crafts for 4 yr. olds?

I teach 4 yr olds at a Christian school. I have these kids everyday, and I need some EASY crafts to break-up the monotony. Even crafts that would take a few days would be great. Crafts that reflect the season are even better! Thanks for your help.

10) Christmas Play with a twist

Our Sunday School did the same thing you did. I convinced the teachers to try something different. What we did was almost the "same thing" with a twist. We assigned each section of the Christmas Story to each of the classes. Then the classroom teacher and children got together and made up their own dramas, songs, poems or whatever they wanted to do. They were given a time limit to present their section on the Sunday morning of our program so we wouldn't run too much overtime at church. It turned out great!! We had things that were traditional from some of the younger classes as well as very modern from the older students.

The other thing we tried was a book entitled, "The ABC's of Christmas". We were able to get that from our local library. The older children read the story and the younger ones acted it out. This worked very well. Everyone saw the children acting and heard what was said. I hope this helps. Tuula Maunula, Kaministiquia, ON
