1) New Years?

I am the superintendent of a small Sunday School and often find it
necessary to combine all our classes the Sunday after Christmas because
of low attendance. So, we've turned that day into a New Year's / Winter
celebration. In the past we've made pledges to Christ for the New Year,
prayer calendars, winter decorations, party horns, etc., and now I'm all
out of ideas. Any fresh ideas for a one hour celebration are welcome!
Thanks, Barb of Cedar Grove UMC

2) Teach The Children?

This is a fantastic resource for Sunday School Teachers and all who educate. I have been a Sunday School Teacher for 3 years. I used a poem called Teach the Children last advent season. I have misplaced it and would like help to relocate it. We found it on the web some where last year, I hard copied it and have lost the copy. If anyone can help, I would sincerely appreciate it. 3) Inexpensive shepherd and angel costumes?

I need help with simple and inexpensive shepherd and angel costumes for my
2-4 year old Sunday School class. They will be participating in our youth
Christmas program by singing along and doing the motions to "Do You Hear
What I Hear?" (an idea I got from a great response posted in this
newsletter.) The children will be dressed as angels and shepherds. There
are usually about ten children each week, however, since our church is new
and rapidly growing, we have several frequent visitors. I don't want to
exclude any child because they did not know to bring a costume, so I'm
looking for ideas that I can put together at the last minute. The program
is scheduled for 12/17. Thank You!

4) Solomon and the Temple

Dear Dana,
There is a Sunday School lesson for making Solomon's temple from a shoebox. It is for younger children. But it includes information and illustrations about the temple that might be helpful to you. And you may be able to adapt it to an older age. It is at www.edupatterns.com. From the home page go to the Free Bible Lesson Page. From there go to the Fall Quarter and from there to Lesson 20.
Blessings! Linda Lawler, Pittsburgh, PA

5) Problems with our older kids

I am writing from Singapore. We are experiencing problems with our older kids (10 and up) they don't want to worship. We use sign language, actions. Worship songs. Some participate. but you get a few who will not. I am asking for some suggestions to alleviate this problem as it is affecting the others when they worship. Any good ideas will be appreciated. Our classes are on average 100 and up.

7) Poinsetta Poem

<< please let me know. Thank you for your ministry.>>>

Long ago on Christmas Eve
a little girl knelt to pray.
Beside the manager, at the chapel
where Jesus' gifts were on display.
She looked so sad, without a gift
to honor the unborn King.
Just then, an Angel appeared and said,
"I have a gift for you to bring."

She gathered an armful of leaves
as the Angel told her to do.
Lo and behold, before her eyes
the leaves turned to a reddish hue!

Now each year at Christmastime,
Poinsettias bloom everywhere.
Known as the "Flower of the Holy Night,"
the miracle from one small prayer!

Hope this is the one you are looking for...
hugs, Carolyn from Texas

9) Adult Christmas party

We have a Christmas party every year for the Women. I am in charge and by far the most fun we had was with my homemade version of Family Feud. I made up several questions relating to things in the Bible then asked the men for their first answer, this gave me the most popular etc. I divided the women into 2 families and we played the game just like the TV show with the winning team choosing 2 from their group to play the bonus round. Some of my questions were "Name one of the ten commandments", "Name a book in the Bible that starts with the letter J". We had a lot of fun with this. We have also done games like Jeopardy, Lets make a deal, Wheel of Fortune and this year Who wants to be a millionarie. I may have some of my survey questions still, feel free to email me if you would like more information. Kathy Watervliet NY (gimpykatk@aol.com)
