1) Tsunami Aide

For Renee in Edmonton, Alberta Canada

Our children's group (ages 4 to 7) had a penny contest for one month to
earn money to send to a missionary our church supports.  We split the
class into two teams (boys vs. girls) and set up a large sign that would
show totals for each week and a large thermometer type wall hanging that
started at zero and went up to our goal of $50.

Our class also went against another, older children's group in our church
(ages 8 through 12) for the month, and at the end we did a presentation
for the kids and let them gather together to find out who had raised the
most money.

We more than passed the goal with the two groups combined, and were able
to send a clear message to the kids that even pennies can add up to great
things, and you don't have to be an adult to make a difference.  We also
shared with our adult congregation what the kids had done, and lots of
folks were blessed because of it.

It would be easy to tie in a love thy neighbor theme with the victims of
the tsunami.  There are many instances in the Bible of helping
someone that we don't know, not just the Good Samaritan.  Consider the
Pharoah's daughter taking baby Moses when her father wanted all the baby
boys dead, or Moses helping the Egyptian who was under attack, also
consider Dorcas who sewed clothes to help people, and don't forget the
wonderful miracles that Jesus performed during his earthly ministry.

Best wishes in your endeavors.
Elizabeth

2) Baby formula cans

Michelle from NC,

Your baby formula cans would be like gold to our preschool class.  They
could be added to the "Prayer Bear" list.  Foam heads and arms, etc. could
be glued to the sides and each time you add a new prayer it could be typed
and placed inside the can.

I'm sure I have more ideas.  You can email me marvel714@hotmail.com

3) Puppet Skits with Moral Applications?

Help!  I am going to the Dominican Republic to help with ministry in a
public school.  We are being given 1 1/2 hrs. a day at the school but we
are not allowed to teach our belief nor evanglize.  However we can tell
simple Bible stories.  Does anyone have any puppet skits which teach such
things as honesty, trustworthiness, respect, etc.?  I have a skit on Noah
and the Floating Zoo which I'll gear towards "promises."  Thanks.  Mary
Lou

P.S.  Go for it Sarah if that is how the Lord is leading.  I've been to
Africa on several occasions and the African people hold a special place in
my heart.

--from SSTN: thank you for the encouragement. Also, make sure you check my
Skits and links pages for Puppet Skits: http://www.ChristianCrafters.Com

4) Tsunami and Encouraging Giving

I came up with a calendar to send home with the kids and their parents for
one week. I spelled out TSUNAMI at the top of the calendar, putting one
letter per day and starting a small statement with that letter.

For example, on Sunday, I had >>
T-he biggest need after the terrible disaster has been clean water. Thank
God that you have running water and give a dime for every working faucet
inside and outside your home.

Monday>>
S-afe and Sound: Sweet words to the survivors, but many of them lost
family members in the disaster. Pray for the survivors today and give a quarter
for every member of your family who will go to bed "safe & sound" tonight.

Tuesday>>
U-nsanitary conditions exist for survivors of the tsunami since there are
no restroom facilities. This could lead to deadly disease that would wipe
out thousands more. Be thankful for your family's health and give a nickel
for every bottle or package of medicine in your medicine cabinet. While
you're at it, give a dime for each working toilet in your home!

Wednesday>>
N-othing is as difficult as telling your hungry child there will not be a
meal today. Pray for those who face hunger and give a nickel for each can
of food in your pantry.

Thursday>>
A-ids kills hundreds of thousands in Asia each year- its impact has been
catastrophic. Give thanks for your family's health and give a dollar in
remembrance of one or more of your own special family members who have
died from disease here in America.

Friday>>
M-ake this an all-out effort~ call Grandparents, Friends, and other family
members and ask if they will add to your donations today.

Saturday>>
I-ndia needs our prayers and our pennies! Collect as many pennies as you
can today to add to your donation. Pray that God will help the survivors
of the Tsunami and will allow his people to show those who are hurting HIS
love!

5) Valentine's banquet

>i would like to know if anyone has ideas or suggestions for a
>Valentine's banquet

One idea that we have done is to have one - of each couple - tell how they
met - or - something about them as a couple others do not know. It really
helped to get to know one another and there were some funny things that
certainly entertained!

As a favor, we have also photographed each couple individually. Decorating
a special spot is nice - but if there is no valentine decorations in the
photo - it makes a nice gift to have framed and displayed all year.

6) Explain Easter "sensory" lesson?

> one that I taught on an Easter Sunday a couple
> years ago. I used sensory examples
> of the crucifixion. Children held nails, smelled vinegar,
> tasted salt (for the taste of blood),
> listened to a hammer pounding nails,

I would love to know more detail about this lesson,  if possible. I was
going to do the empty tomb cookies but this sounds so moving that I think
the kids would get alot more out of it......Christ's servant, Valla

9) Song Found!

I had received a letter on 1/18 from Audrey Murray, of Waianae, Hawaii,
and a copy of the song accompanied the letter.  She stated that she saw my
request on SSTN on the 13th, and from the chorus which I quoted, she
remembered the song, and searched an old hymnal and found the song, copied
it and sent to me.  She had purchased that hymnal 55 years ago in
Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they were members.  She bought it from a Baptist
church which was disposing of old hymnals to buy new hymn books.

Thanks to SSTN and your willingness to post my request, I have the song
for which I had been searching for several years.  The title is, "But This
I Know."  And, of course, my thanks to Audrey Murray, to whom I have sent
a thank you message.

I would be interested in your answer.
