1) Gift exchange & game ideas
"Holidays Ideas for Youth Groups" by Wayne Rice and Mike Yaconelli has some good games in it for Christmas. We have played a Christmas Carol game, called "Christmas Synonyms" with adults at a Christmas Pastor's Party from the book. E-mail me privately at laredon@tusco.net and I will send it to you. Also we have used this story as a way to pass out our gifts the past few years at our Ladies Christmas party. It originally came from a Pack-O-Fun book and was wrote by Kim Mason from Granbury, TX
Christmas with the Right Family:
Everyone sits in a circle, holding the gift that they brought for the exchange. Someone reads the story slowly enough time for gifts to be passed. Every time the word RIGHT is read, the gift goes to the right. Every time the word LEFT is read, the gift goes to the left. Whatever gift you have at the end of the story is yours providing it isn't the gift you brought.
Christmas was almost here, and Mother RIGHT was finishing the Christmas baking. Father RIGHT, Sue RIGHT, and Billy RIGHT returned from their last-minute Christmas erands. "There's not much LEFT to be done," said Father RIGHT as he came into the kitchen. "Did you leave the basket of food at church? asked Mother RIGHT. "I LEFT it RIGHT where you told me to," said Father RIGHT. "I'm glad my shopping is done," said Billy RIGHT. "I don't have any money LEFT." The hall telephone rang, and Susan RIGHT LEFT to answer it. She rushed back and told the family, Aunt Tillie RIGHT LEFT a package for us RIGHT on Grandma's RIGHT porch. I'll go over there RIGHT now and get it," she said as she LEFT in a rush. Father RIGHT LEFT the kitchen and brought in the Christmas tree. By the time Susan RIGHT returned, Mother RIGHT, Father RIGHT, and Billy RIGHT had begun trimming the tree. The entire RIGHT family sang carols as they finished the decorating. Then they LEFT all the presents arranged under the tree and went to bed, hoping they had selected the
RIGHT gifts for their family. Now I hope you have the RIGHT present for yourself, because that's all that's LEFT of our story.... except to wish you a Merry Christmas...

Ideas for Christmas lessons for Sunday School-"The Adornments" ornaments using the names of Jesus as their themes ex. Jesus is the True Vine, Jesus is the Bread of Life etc. from the Family Life Today organization is really super. The kit can be bought from them or at your local Christian book store. Along with the ornaments are a little devotional booklet for each theme. Also they have a workbook that is on sale from Family Life Today that can be used with the oranments or just by itself. The workbook has pictures of each of the ornaments that the children can color and have for their own trees at home plus other ideas to go with each lesson. They have other items that can be purchased to use with 'The Adornments."

2) Armor of God

Mary Beth, When I taught my 2nd graders I had them break up into teams of
two or three at the beginning of class. Each team was given aluminum foil,
tape, scissors and a piece of cardboard. On the word go they were to see
who could come up with the best Armor costume. They all loved this
activity. I didn't give them any suggestions. They were very creative and
I think they all learned something.

5) Advent Calendar Ideas
1. Saw a great one in a magazine the other day. Get 24 small stacking paper mache boxes (different shapes add variety). Decorate with paint, stickers, stars, whatever. Inside each box is placed a line of scripture that is relevant to that day of advent. I don't have those scriptures in hand, but if you need them, please email me at wprinse@hotmail.com and I will look them up and forward them on to you.
2. The other one we did in Sunday School a few years ago was very similar. Each verse was printed on a colored strip of paper. Red, green and white (Red to remind us of the blood that was shed, green to remind us of the everlasting God and white to remind us of the purity of Jesus). These strips were then made into paper chains. Two options here: can be made into a chain by adding one "link" each day or reverse the operation and take one "link" off each day and use as a devotion.
3. Saw another in a magazine yesterday. (Family Fun I think). They had taken one of those plastic workshop organizers, the kind you use for screws, nails, bolts and nuts, etc. They had painted the outside gold and the front of each little drawer. The drawers were numbered and a small gift or toy (representing some piece of the advent / Christmas story) was included in each. ie: small donkey, baby doll, gifts from the Magi, etc. Hope this helps, Wendi, Sardis B

6) Candy craft

Last year we made snowmen from Tootsie Pops and plastic spoons. Hot glue the sucker to the bowl and handle of the spoon, then on the back side of the spoon bowl add a felt hat, eyes and a carrot nose (out of felt or we found small buttons like carrots). add a scrap piece of felt or material tied around where the bowl and handle meet and you have a snow man. 7) Candy Craft
I have seen suckers covered by "felt" mice. Most people use the green and red felt for this craft and glue the tiny plastic eyes that you can purchase by the bag to the upper part of the mouse's head to give it a more real look affect. If you want whiskers, you can draw them in or glue on strips of yarn. Ahreita Griffin-Charlotte, NC

9) Forming a youth group?
I am from a very small church, I am wanting to form a youth group. Something to keep the youth interested. Does anyone have any ideas? I would love to hear any advise or ideas, Thank You, Kelly, Ardmore ok. Drummersmom99@aol.com

10) Share with Paulette & David
Just wanted to share with Paulette & David about my 5th grade Sunday School class. What a joy it is to see how these kids become interested in knowing what God's word says & how eager they are to be able to find scriptures. Our format is a discussion type - I take the prepared lesson material & then augment with scriptures which are pertinent. We have a lively discussion time and I always have them look the supplemental scriptures up. One session we studied Revelation & at the end, one of
the young men said that he used to be afraid of the end times, but now he wasn't because he knew he wouldn't be here. Paulette & David, this is a very fertile, vulnerable time in their lives & if we can just make the Bible & The Lord alive and real
