"The Gifts of the Easter Basket" are "Hope, Heaven, Joy, New Name,
Peace, Life and Forgiveness" - all things that God gives us through his
son, Jesus Christ. I had a plastic egg for each word that I mentioned.
As each egg was pulled from the basket, I talked briefly about it and
had someone read a scripture passage relating to it.
Have a great day!
Rosemary

I am looking for a craft to do with my kids for Foreign Missions Sunday.

Each year, in March, we have a Missions Emphasis Sunday, that has a theme for that year, such as "Lord of the Harvest". All classes k-12, make large banners to hang in the church to depict the theme. All classes from Pre-K to Adult will have a missionary visit their class and tell about their work. Usually the missionaries that visit are local. All classes are assigned a missionary family to pray for and to support, throughout the year. 2-3 years ago, the missionary couple my 5/6th grade class prays for was visiting from Austria during our Missions Sunday. It was great to have them come and speak to the boys! This Sunday we will be making Valentines for them. (They receive this letter so just want to say, "Hi Mark and Becky!" You can learn more about their ministry in my Showcase section, and get a free craft idea from them too, ie.-Computer Bugs.)

Easter Ideas

** I received this as a forward in e-mail a couple years ago and really
liked it. I tried it and kids loved it. I had lost the recipe but just
recently found it on the internet again. I am excited that I can share it
with you! Hope you like it! -------AbbaGail Hills, Eden Prairie, MN

EASTER COOKIES (Also known as Resurrection Cookies)

To be made the evening before Easter.

You need: 1c. whole pecans, 1 tsp. vinegar, 3 egg whites, pinch salt, 1c. sugar, zipper baggie, wooden spoon, tape, Bible.

Preheat oven to 300 (this is important-don't wait til you're half done with the recipe)

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing.

Add 1 c. sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know this and how to belong to Him. Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isa. 1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid.
Read Matt. 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF.

Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt.27:65-66.

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.
Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie.

Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty! Read Matt. 28:1-9

>I am teaching a class on Baptism, and I would like to come up with a fun game for my >kids to play, ...something to do with water

A quick, fun & easy water game my 6th graders loved was "Guess the Gargle".
Make up a list of simple songs that they all would know, Jesus Loves me
/Twinkle, Twinkle.
Give them a song one at a time, then they gargle to the tune, whoever
quesses correctly goes next. Good idea to have a trash can or bowl handy
because they needed to spit a lot!

>"I am looking for a craft to do with my kids for Foreign Missions Sunday."

Here is something I did: I took in a Polaroid camera and took a picture of each child. Then I had the kids make a card to send to a missionary that our church sponsored. We glued the picture of each child into each card and helped them write a little bit about themselves and what they liked to do. One time we picked a missionary family who had kids their age and let the kids send their cards to the children in the family. We talked to them about what it would be like to live in a foreign and not be able to talk to the children who live next door in your own language. Another time we picked a single missionary who often babysat for the kids when she was home on sabbatical, so most of them knew her, and they knew she would be interested in them. The kids are always thrilled when they write back to them and thank them for the pictures and cards.
