1) Burning bush idea

Mary, I once taught 4 years olds about Moses and the burning bush during a
week of Bible School, and two wonderful tools I used were: 1:
demonstration of how the bush burned, but wasn't consumed.....Use a bundle
of silk greenery, such as ivy, dip it into a bucket of water and rubbing
alcohol, then stand away from the bucket and the students, and light it
with a lighter. It will flare up, and the alcohol will burn off quickly,
leaving the greenery unharmed. There is no exact amount to do, just
practice at home till you get the burning effect. You can do the
demonstration a couple of times, but then the plastic parts get weakened,
so limit it to two times. I promise once will not be enough to satisfy
them. 2: I made a huge paper mache mountian, and at the top, put a small
flashlight with red and orange cellaphane, like from the florist, to
resemble a burning bush, added dry ice at the base in a pan, added water,
instantly had the cloud mentioned in the scriptures, turned off the
lights, fire now very awesome, and had a deep voiced man record the 10
commandments on a cassette that I played to the kids. One little guy,
said, "be quiet, that's God!". Both make very powerful visuals. Hope you
can use one or both. Friend in Christ, rhonda24@bscn.com

2) 5/6th Bible Curriculum

I am looking for a Bible Study curriculum geared towards 5 and 6th grade
students that know the Lord. I guess a series that allows them to dig
deeper into the Christian life.
Any help is appreciated.

3) Contemporary Christian music

I use at our children's church a CD "Shout to the Lord for kids". I'm not
sure if you have it available in the US. It has some contemporary praise
and worship songs, many of them ones that we sing with at the church band
at the "adult" church but with children singing some of the verses etc.
It is easy to work out hand motions to most of the songs. Our kids really
enjoy the music (so do I in fact!)

7) Spiritual Baby Shower

For my son's baby shower, I took 3X5 unlined index cards and
rubber-stamped a cute light-blue baby in a blanket in the upper right
corner. Then I used deckle-scissors to make the bottom edge ragged. I
took a light-blue marker and ran it along the deckled edge for highlights.
Each guest (it was a coed shower) was asked to write a message to Gabriel
(not advice to me) on the card. It was amazing how seriously each person
took the task - all of the messages were very endearing and many of the
guests referred to particular bible verses. Now Gabe has a collection of
personal messages from his aunts, uncles, grandmother, godparents, and
many other significant people in his life. Although he was already born,
this could easily be adapted for a baby not yet born and for whom the sex
isn't known.

9) Burning bush craft idea

Mary,
I work with our church's pre-school class and my kids love to do tear art
projects. I usually give them a picture of a simple shape/animal. I tear
small pieces
of each color of construction paper into several bowls and give the
children cotton swabs and liquid glue. They "paint" the picture and stick
the bits of construction paper to their picture. The results are
adorable.
For the burning bush project, I used red, orange, and yellow bits of paper
on a piece of construction paper with a trunk and some branches drawn on
it.
I hope this helps!~~Louise

10) Burning bush craft idea

When i was Secretary for my sunday school class.... the teacher had the
Prince of Egypt soundtrack.. and apparently it has the burning bush scene
on it... the sound's and music etc. He Re-enacted the burning bush
scene..... by using a small tumbleweed attached to crossplanks to stand
it up .. and then strung red lights on it and attached strips of foil....
we turned the lights off in the room turned on the red lights and we had a
small hand fan to blow the foil which reflected the lights. The kids
loved it. Then afterwards we told the story from the Bible .. i suggest
a contemporary english version for pre-schoolers.

12) Sunday School Name

Starting this year, we are no longer using the name "Sunday School" for
our CE hour between services on Sunday. We call this time "Faith
Formation." During this time we intensionally seek to make connections
between faith and everyday living. We hope that the moral and theological
capacities of our children and adults will contininually form and develop
as the biblically based lessons, activities, and take-home resources
engage the whole self-head, heart, and hands-through study, spiritual
formation, worship, and activities of response through service and
mission. We feel learning and living out our faith together in this kind
of environment forms a firm foundation for faith formation. We believe
our faithful attention and response to God’s presence and activity in our
daily life will led each one of us toward a fuller, more relational
understanding of faith and abundant life in Christ.
