1) VBS grand prize

Hi,
The last couple years we had a system where all week the kids ( in their
teams) would collect points for things such as bringing a friend, each
item for the food bank, encouraging each other, extreme acts of kindness
(such as willingly giving up their snack when we ran short) the winning
teams at games got awarded a few extra points, and of course points for
memory verse per child.
Points tracking charts were posted so teams could follow their progress.
At the end of the week in our final ceremony we awarded goody bags to the
teams with the most points from each of the 3 age categories.
The feedback we had from the small group leaders was that this was a help
to manage their groups and the kids all loved it. I found it interesting
that it often wasn't the oldest kids teams who got the most points.

2) Memorial Day?

I do the curriculum for our Jr. Church and have been blessed to find many
ideas on this site as well as others.  Sometimes I come up with the title
before I have the material!   I try to observe the holidays with an
appropriate Christian lesson.  The one I am stuck on right now is for May
27 to observe Memorial Day.  I have titled the lesson “God Bless America”.

Thanks for all your help.

3) Pastor's Apprecation Day / Month?

This is just a question, but I thought Pastor Appreciation day was in
October.... If not, what is it we celebrate in October that has to do with
the Pastor??

--from SSTN: according to ChristianityToday.com, "Clergy Appreciation Day"
is Sept. 14, of this year. You can check out their other official holiday
dates too at:

4) Water & Alcohol Lesson

> I don't know where I found the lesson before.
> You wet a small handkerchief or piece of fabric in a solution
> of water and alcohol. Then you could light it with a match and the
> alcohol would burn off and the handkerchief was not burned or harmed

To achieve this effect, DO NOT use a solution of water & alcohol. Instead
use a solution of methylated spirit or surgical spirit. Pour a thin layer
of surgical or methylated spirit on a flat plate. Soak the handkerchief in
the spirit. Take the handkerchief out, and light it with a match. The
surgical or methylated spirit will burn off and the handkerchief will not
be burned. We did this object lesson before, it was COOL! You should try
it before demonstrating it before your class.
Have fun!!
Blessings,
Kok Moi (Malaysia)

5) Water & Alcohol Lesson

Dear Sunday school teacher

I am a high school chemistry teacher who has performed this water-alcohol
demo both in school and in Sunday school. This is sometimes called COLD
FLAME. I obtain the ethanol (ethyl alcohol 95%) from my drug/ chemical
supplier.
An equal volume of water is added, that is 1:1 ratio
   Water: alcohol
       1: 1
Caution: Do not have the flame near the water-alcohol solution as the
whole
solution can catch fire.

7) Butterflies from Bottles?

I would love to have more information on how these butterflies are made.
What kind of paint is used that will stick to the plastic?

8) Worship is for God

Entertainment In Church

Worship is something we do FOR God, not for ourselves.
There is only ONE AUDIENCE in a worship service - that is God.

I always get upset at the arguments between contemporary service and
traditional service....none of this matters except that our hearts are
right with God and we are truly worshipping Him - we are definitely NOT
the recipient of this worship and praise.

Just adding my 2-cents worth of commentary.
In His Service,
Nancy
