1) Divorced Pastors

As mentioned in the previous letter, I do not want to limit discussion in
SSTN on any issue in ministry. But I also don't want to tie up the network
with one topic. So I thought the best way to serve everyone was to set
aside a special page in ChristianCrafters.com to allow for this
important topic to be discussed. To read the recent postings on divorced
pastors (17 of them), please refer to this page:

3) Sunday School Certificate

My Wife and I have just gone on a camp here in South Africa with 30 abused
children.
As many might know ,the child abuse is very high over here.
The one thing that  I thought that should be used in all children's
ministry is the following.
We had to get a police clearance certificate. This means that your police
would issue you with a certificate stating that you have no prior
convictions concerning any area.
They happened to find that when I got mine ,that a accident I was involved
in over 18 years ago was on it as I was just over the legal alcohol limit.
I have since become a Christian and things have changed.
Whilst the organisation was checking all the people who wanted to take
part in this camp months before, they discovered that one person had been
convicted as a paedophile. This way they could deal with the situation
I for one am quite happy to have a document like this as it clearly states
as to where I stand .

4) White Elephant Exchange

I've played this game several times.  You choose a story in which you
insert the words  "right" and ''left" several times in appropriate places.
Make your story 2-2 1/2 pages long.  Have everyone at your party sit in a
large circle.  Pass out 4 or 5 gifts, maybe a few more or a few less
depending on how many people are playing.  Scatter them out.  Explain to
the people that every time you say the word "right" they must pass the
gift to the person on their right.  When you say "left" it gets passed to
the left.  When the story is finished the people holding the gifts win
them.   Example story starter:  "Once upon a time there lived a family
called the Right family.  There was Father Right, Mother Right, and Bobby
and Billy Right. One evening Mother Right left to go to the store.  She
turned left at the end of the driveway. She knew she was headed in the
right direction when...."

6) Christmas program ideas for next year?

you and your ministry.

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

7) God's Cookbook Sermon?

Years ago I did a children's sermon about following directions while
baking a cake..mixing up the ingridients, salt  LOOKS like sugar, asking
mom instead of reading recipe and so on, I have had a request to help
'celebrate' the pastor's birthday by baking her a cake but I can't
remember how to tie it all up to following God's cook book, the Bible. can
anyone help me find the talk?

8) Anxiety - Scripture

A favorite saying of mine, although it is not straight from Scripture, it
is probably based on Scripture.  I have is on a brass sailboat...  "The will
of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you."

Another one of my favorites is from a Veggie Tales movie, where cousin
Mordecai is speaking to Esther.  Mordecai tells her to never be afraid to
do the right thing.

Give God your concerns, ALL your concerns, and he'll give you the guidance
and strength for what you need, perhaps not all YOU want or think you
need, but his ways are better than ours.  "Give us today our daily bread."
Matthew 6:11.

11) Teresa's White elephant exchange

The Left/right idea is very simple. Everyone holds the gift he/she
brought. The narrator starts reading the story. Every time he says "left"
the gift is passed to the left (passed to 1 person only). When he says
"Right" it is passed to the right.  This continues until the story is
finished. You keep the gift you are holding at the end of the story.
My Christmas Story idea is copyrighted in my book 'Ideas for Ladies, Vol.
III," by Barbara Westberg and Teresa Bohannon.  It is available through
www.upci.org/pph.
You can do a web search on "left/right story" or "The right family" and
find other stories to use.

12) Books of the Bible Resources All Age Groups

I am starting a session this Sunday to teach my 4th-5th grade SS Class
the Books of the Bible and How to Study the Bible.  Some helpful resources
that I have found are:
a) 'The Bible for Blockheads' (Gives the big picture on all 66 Books of
the
Bible)
b) 'Knowing Your Bible' (An All Church Training Series) by Anthony D.
Palma,
Glen Percifield and Wave Nunnally) - a good teacher resource which
includes History of the Bible, surveys of the Old and New Testaments
(breakdown
of each book and section), How to Study the Bible, etc.
c) 'Studying the Bible' - for Ages 8-11 by Karyn Henley - Gives suggested
Bible Study Helps, discusses where the Bible came from, has a book by book
breakdown with two songs to teach Books of the Bible for Old and New
Testament.  Also discusses why the Books of the Bible are arranged as
they are, has study by topics, character study, places and times, and
guided devotions. I am also using one of the helpful hints given earlier,
except rather than boxes, my husband is cutting 2 X 6 boards each 7 1/2
inches tall which I will
cover in different colored fabric for each section with the name of each
book on the
edge.
I plan to put them on shelves in our classroom and play the game suggested
-
removing a book, sliding the others together and asking the children which
book is missing.  There is also a very nice felt set of Books of the Bible
you might want to check out.  It's probably targeted to younger children,
but I think it's really cool! Hope this information is helpful!  We are
going to have a lot of fun with
this study!!
Blessings,
Sherry
