2) Teaching The Very Young

In teaching very small children (ages 1-4), picture story books work very well and so do "action" songs or rhymes. Hands-on toys or props (Noah's Ark, Manger scenes, puppets, etc.) also seem to really hold their attention and allows them to learn and play at the same time. Hope this helps!

Fund raising ideas?

Looking for some unique fund raising ideas for our Senior and Middle High Youth Group at our church. Any ideas? Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Marilyn-Bethlehem, Pa

From ChristianCrafters.Com: our youth group prepares and serves a pancake breakfast once a month. Breakfast is served before, between and after services. This past Sunday I ate breakfast for lunch! Some of the food is donated, some purchased. But if you have the facilities and adult overseers, this is a great way for them to earn money for camp and other activities.

5) Thanks

6)
Teaching young children

Just a suggestion on teaching very small children. While at ministerial
training college a group of spouses got together to form "Wee Wesley
Worship" for the pre-schoolers. We used David Cooks Children's Church for
2's and 3's and still use it now we are out in Circuit. It cost us £50 but
includes week by week teaching material including very basic bible story,
suitable craft, songs (sung to nursery ryhmes) which also come on cassette
if you haven't anyone musical, and a story relating to home life and the
biblical passage. It gives instuctions and templates for crafts and
bulletin boards and also provides sheets for the children to take home.
Sorry if I'm going on a bit, only this is the best teaching material for
pre-schoolers that I've come across and I would thoroughly recommend it, as
it does majority of the preparation for you. Particularly useful if you've
got your own toddlers to look after and do preparation each week. PS We
call our group "Toddler Praise". - Mandy, UK

Teaching Very Young Kids

>Does anyone have any ideas on how to teach really small kids, like ages 1-4
>yrs?

Sing! For children up to about two, sing through most of the class. There
is curriculum out there with songs to teach creation, Jesus, cleaning up
toys, etc. One is called See N Know and can be ordered from Bailey's
Bookstore in Lubbock Texas. Palma Smiley also has something for this age.
I am not as familiar with her material but it is similar. I use lots of
animal toys to sing about the things God made. Look for toys that have
motion or make noise. They love to float rubber ducks and fish in a bowl
of water. The curriculum has patterns for making other visual aids.
Repetition is good at this age. You don't need a different story each
week. Over 2 to 4 year olds need a little more. Add a short simple
story. Maybe repeat the topic for a month before moving on. Easy crafts.
They love when the teacher has a puppet who greets them at the first of the
lesson and and the end. They look forward to it. Make flipcharts from
books aimed at this age. There are ones about going to Bible class,
Talking to God, (Patty book series), Bible stories. These too can be
repeated. They like knowing what is coming next and will often say the
words with you. This is a tough age group to teach together. There is so
much difference in ability and attention span.
