The Children's Praise

Hosanna to David's Son

"When the religious leaders saw the outrageous things he was doing, and heard all the children running and shouting through the Temple, 'Hosanna to David's Son!' they were up in arms and took him to task. 'Do you hear what these children are saying?'

Jesus said, "Yes, I hear them. And haven't you read in God's Word, 'From the mouths of children and babies I'll furnish a place of praise?'" Matthew 21:15-16 (MSG)

My granddaughter is expecting her fourth child in May. Her loving husband and three boys are eagerly awaiting the joyful event of the baby girl's birth. This great-grandma is pretty excited too!

I've often imagined the baby inside her mother's womb praising God, and maybe, just maybe saying, "Dear God, I'm glad my mommy is your child and You live inside of her. I'm thankful You are also with me while I am inside her womb. I already love my mommy, daddy, and three brothers very much. Even though I have never seen them, I am just as excited to meet them, as they are about seeing and meeting me.

Being formed here in Your love, care, and watchful eye, I feel so loved and safe. When I enter the world, God, I hope my mommy and daddy will teach me more about You, so I can learn to love You even more!

God, I love that we are together here and I can praise You in the hidden and secluded place where You have skillfully, patiently, fearfully, and wonderfully fashioned me for Your glory.

Thank You, God, for the loving family You have waiting for me. May we always love You supremely.

From Your loving baby girl. Amen.”

What inexplicable joy, wonder, and delight a physical new birth is, and so is the new birth God has given to each one of us who have received His precious gift of salvation and have become born again by the Spirit of our living God.

I pray today as God loves to hear the praises of babies and children that we would lift our hearts to the heavens and let praises to our God flow from our mouths. Regardless of our age, God calls us His children, and He loves His children's praises!

Prayer: Father our hearts overflow with thanksgiving. You alone are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. Thank You for all that You are, all that You do, all You have done, and all You will continue to do. We love You Abba Father, we love being Your children and we love praising You!  Amen.

Update

At six months gestation, and a day after this devotional was posted online, God called the baby girl home.

The parents of this beloved baby girl had already been told their child would be born with some serious health defects and the parents were preparing to deal with that unexpected news. However, at their last ultrasound appointment the parents and the baby’s three brothers witnessed the baby breathe her last breath in her mommy’s womb, as our Omnipotent God chose that precise moment to take her home to be with Him in glory.

The baby’s parents, siblings, and this great grandma cannot deny our sadness, sorrow, pain, and grief as we are leaning heavily upon our Lord God. Yet, through all this we are also praising God because of His mercy, love, and grace. Miraculously, the baby’s daddy has called upon the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation!

The loss of a child is a very deep and inexplicable heartache. One we all could not face without God’s help. We continue to offer up praises to our God, even mixed with tears, because we love Him and He is worthy of all praise! Amen.
