Flashlight Bible Maze

Bible Game and Lesson for Children and Youth Ministry

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" Psalm 119:105 (KJV).

Set Up
Write each word of Psalm 119:105 on an index card or Post-it Note. You will need one set for each player or team. (There will be 15 cards for each player or team.) You might use different colors for each set or place each word in an envelope and write on it, "Player 1" or "Team 1," "Player 2" or "Team 2," etc. Establish a maze in your classroom using chairs, or brightly colored tape on the floor to mark the pathway. Place the Bible verses along the pathway, not in the correct order of the verse, and then turn off the lights in the room.

How to Play
Give players or teams flashlights to move through the maze. Make sure they move slowly. Tell them they are searching for 15 words that make up today's Bible verse. (If the words are in envelopes, or on different colors of paper, let them know they are looking for envelopes with their number on it, or the color to find.) Once the players have found all 15 of their words, have them sit down at the end of the maze, still in the dark with only their flashlights, and then arrange the words in order. When players or teams think they have the correct order, they may shout it out. If it's correct, they win. If it's not, another team may give it a try. If no one can assemble the words in the proper order, turn on the lights and give the players or teams Bibles to look up the verse. (Even if your church uses a different translation, it will still help them to place the words in order.) The first player or team that shouts out the verse correctly wins.

Discussion

First, listen to the music video, THY WORD, and then discuss the meaning of the Bible verse.

* God's Word is likened to a lamp, because it shows us how to live, God's Word lights the way when life is darkened by our sins, fears, and uncertainties. God's Word shows us how to make right decisions in life, and how to stay on the right path to follow Jesus.

*Jesus is the Word, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:1,14).

* Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).

*Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
