Are You Thankful?
Bible Lesson for Children's Ministry
1.) “O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known His deeds among the people.” - Psalm 105:1
2.) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Small notebooks with label on front “I AM THANKFUL.” (I found 4 small notebooks for $1.00 at the dollar store and printed 2”x4” labels for the front and used a smaller address label on the inside with one of our verses on it.)
(Let the children interact as much as possible and time allows)
You all look very nice today! Did you pick out the clothes you are wearing? How did you get your clothes? (Some may be gifts, or given from a relative or friend that has outgrown them, or purchased – all reasons to be thankful)
How do your clothes get clean? When you are at home, what is your favorite food? How do you get groceries? Who goes to get the groceries? How do they get to the store? Who pays for the groceries? Where did they get the money? You kids sure did mention a LOT of things to be thankful
for but, have you ever thanked anyone for the things we mentioned? Have you helped carry the groceries in the house, or helped put them away, and said, “Thanks?”
Did you thank the person that gave their clothes to you after they had gotten too big to wear them anymore? Have you ever thanked someone for washing and ironing your clothes – or for buying them for you?
Someone works very hard to get money to provide for you. Have you ever thanked them for generously spending their money to provide food, clothing, and a home for you?
What are some things that you have done that someone thanked you in return? How do you feel when someone says thank you to you for helping or for sharing? It does feel good, doesn’t it?
If YOU were the big person, going to work every day, or you were the one that washed the clothes and cooked the food, would you like to hear someone say, “Thank you?”
Did you know that it is GOD that really provides ALL for all your needs? HE is the one that created you. God created the grown-ups in your home, too! They started out as babies and grew up. You are growing up fast, and you will be one of those grown-ups someday too. God is the one that helps you and the grown-ups every day. HE provides jobs that we need so that grown-ups can take care of their families. GOD as made our bodies so that we can breathe without thinking about it! Because of the miracle of the way our bodies are made, we can think, walk, talk, and learn! GOD made everything for a reason and that reason was for us to glorify HIM. We should be thankful to God for everything. We should pray daily and thank Him for loving us so much.
The Bible says that we should “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 – When we tell others how thankful we are for what GOD has done for us, God is glorified and our light shines for HIM! The Bible also says, “O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known His deeds among the people.” - Psalm 105:1 - And at our church, we KNOW
that Every Word In The Bible Is. . .ABSOLUTELY TRUE!
God has told us to be thankful and to tell others what the LORD has done for us. God tells us in His Word that we should “honor our father and mother” (and grandma and grandpa :o) When we thank them….we honor them and we honor God.
Today, you will receive a small notebook that has a label, “I AM THANKFUL” on the front cover. It also has the scripture Psalm 105:1 inside. The rest of your notebook has blank pages for you to write or draw pictures of things that you are thankful for. Your notebook will be a good way to remind yourself to thank others and to pray and thank God for all your blessings! Do you think you can fill your notebook with blessings that you have in your life? Sure, you can. I hope you will begin today writing and drawing about how God is blessing you. I hope you will share your notebook with your family (and with me) --- but mostly with GOD!
Dear Heavenly Father, we have so much to be thankful for in our lives. You are a wonderful God! You have created each one of us. You provide everything we need. We love you, LORD and we want to tell everyone about you and thank the people that take care of us for all they do too.
In Jesus Name, AMEN!
