Ten Commandments Memory Trick

by the Kids from Highline Christian Church

Bret Thorsen, the Children's Pastor at Highline Christian Church, writes: "We developed this 'memory trick' to help remember the Ten Commandments.  I hope it will help more kids learn them. I know it really helped my kids as they are the ones that made this up.  One other thing we used to help the kids remember the commandments, and which number they were, was a 10 sided die.  The kids would role the die and say the commandment they rolled and the way to remember it.  It made the lesson into a fun game for the kids."

1 - God said you should have no other gods before me. Because I'm number one. (hold up one finger)
2 - Do not make for yourself any idols in the form of anything. Because if you do you will have two gods. (hold up 2 fingers)
3 - Do not misuse the name of the Lord - What do we have three of?  We have three names; first, middle, last. That is how you remember #3.
4 - The fourth commandment is the last commandment that talks about our relationship with God and on the last day of creation God rested so - Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
5 - This is the first commandment that talks about our relationship with other people and who are the first people you honor and obey after God? Your parents so honor your father and mother.
6 - Six, six, six is the number of the beast.  The beast is bad, bad is to kill, kill is to murder so you should not murder.
7 - Seven stands for holiness and the only place sexual relations is holy is when it is in marriage.  You shall not commit adultery.
8 - In some countries when you get caught stealing they cut off your fingers.  You got caught two times and how many fingers do you have left? You shall not steal.
9 - This commandment has 9 words in it - You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
10 - We remember this as being the biggest number and the shortest commandment - Don't covet.

The kids that helped put this together are: Kelsey L., Brittany F., Audra P., Kris M., Ariel W., Michael C., Matthew B., Amarintha D., William F., and Kirsten W.
