1) Bible T-Shirts for Cold Weather

Sarah,

I like the new t-shirts that you are offering but please don't forget us "up north" that like a long sleeve shirt around this time of the year. As soon as I am able I will get one.

Sincerely,
Michele M. Irwin

--from SSTN: thank you, Michele. You can now purchase them with long sleeves. ;o) The new "Fire-Dove" design says,
"I'm Powered Up!" Check it out at: http://www.cafepress.com/Bible_tshirts

2) God's special favor (??)

Over the last year or so, many U.S. Protestant leaders have urged the endorsement of far-reaching and unilateral political commitments to the people and land of Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, citing Holy Scripture as warrant. Media presentations claim that "70 million evangelicals in America" believe that God shows special favor toward ethnic Israel, and that the Bible's promises concerning the land are fulfilled in a special political region or "Holy Land," perpetually set apart by God for one ethnic group. It is the opinion such statements damage the cause of Christ and His gospel, particularly in the Middle East and the Arab world. Faculty members at Knox Theological Seminary have posted an open letter concerning "the People of God, the Land of Israel, and the Impartiality of the Gospel," and I encourage readers to view it at:

3) Ten Commandments for pre-schoolers?

Can someone please help me with lessons/information for the 10 Commandments for pre-schoolers?

Linda in Marion

--from SSTN:

Hi Linda,
Have you seen our poster and flash cards? This finger memory technique works well with pre-schoolers too.

4) Aged Bible Lessons (Issue #40)

How about this for a lesson plan:
No organized plan at all. This way the teacher only has to prepare him or her self.

What the class could do is pray asking the Lord to be the head of the class and let every member participate in an orderly manner, whether by song, poem, sharing a word of praise, an important observation, exhortation, or example from life experience that comes to mind if it fits in with what the Lord is doing.

Maybe the teacher could simply start with a verse. The teacher might even just open the Bible at random like this:

I suppose I should pray first asking God to show me something good. Amen.

Matthew 4:24
And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

Someone might say something like:
There is nothing that Jesus can't do, for with him all things are possible, because God was with him. There is no lack with Jesus. He has all that the Father has, and Jesus went about doing good. Jesus always does good.

Someone might say "This reminds me of a song", and they could sing...."What a friend we have in Jesus..."

The focus of the class should be on Jesus. Anything that we share should give him glory. It's good to recognize the Lord in whatever we do.

RB

Ps: Jesus heals and Jesus mends.....so we can start life again. So many times we have fallen or gone astray.......Yet Jesus saves, yes Jesus saves. Time and again, till time shall have no end. Jesus remains the same. Our Savior is he, through all
eternity.....He makes us free, and in him, free indeed we shall be.....Oh, It's good to keep my eyes on Jesus........!

This reminds me that if I have a friend who is sick or in need of something I should invite them to come and learn about Jesus.

5) Armor of God ideas

I have collected all the ideas and are using some in this study. We already have made the belt and breastplate and will be making the shoes this weekend. I also want to thank RB for explaining that each piece should be taught what it stands for and how it protects us...I am having each verse memorized for each week. For example, last week in making the belt and breastplate, the verse to memorize is Ephesians 6:14 and with the shoes this week will be verse 15 and so on and of course we go over what each stands for and how each piece protects us in the spiritual world.
Thanks again SSN friends, you were a big help.

Bev

6) Prayer Board Link?

Dear fellow servant ...

Thank you for a wonderful newsletter full of wisdom, links and creative ideas.

I was looking for the prayer link, but couldn't find it. Please send it to me, if this was mailed to the wrong address.

We are running an ACE school here in Njoro, Kenya, for the past almost 4 years. We currently have 107 children in our school from the ages of 4 months to 16 years - mostly kids from single moms and widows as well as orphans that had been placed with the extended family.

Last week however, we heard that the place is going to be sold on an auction, as the owner is owing another company alot of money. Please pray with us, as we have nowhere to go with our beautiful children once the place is sold. We are trusting God to eventually buy land and build our own school, but that has not yet realized. We know God's timing is perfect. You can read about us in our website : yasha.za.org or ventersinkenya.blogspot.com

Thank you for giving this through to your intercessors and for seriously standing with us and our children to see the glory of the Lord in this matter.

The Lord be with you in the great work you are doing.

In His love ...

--from SSTN: you'll find the prayer link two sections down from the bottom of this newsletter. Lydia, the Yasha Mission is doing a wonderful work! I will be praying for you, your staff and the children you teach. I encourage others in the network to visit the prayer board to pray for you and also for those who have posted their requests.

7) Entire SSTN Issue

Thank you so much for including the entire issue of SSTN in the e-mail !! I live in dial-up world, and never had the extra kid-free time to click on the links to see the entire newsletter online. Thank you, and God bless you!

Karen

--from SSTN: you're welcome. I know that this is the easiest way to read it for most people. And this is the way it has been done for years. However the cost has greatly increased to send it in this format. However, I am trusting God to provide the necessary monies to keep it like this.

8) Cain & Abel Craft?

Hello,
This week's lesson is on Cain & Abel. The message of the craft is "God Cares About What You Do." I'm looking for a relevant craft, appropriate for 3&4 year olds. They have about 15 minutes for craft time. The curriculum calls for them to draw a face on a pre-made heart, but there's no way that will take 15 minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!!

--from SSTN: make sure you check the archives too. The "Search" link is listed above in the bright green box.

9) Open-ended Memory Technique

This message is in response to your request for ideas to memorize scriptures. Here are a few of my own:

a. Disappearing Words
Write the scripture on a chalk or white board. Say the scripture a couple of times together as a group then let the kids erase 2-3 words at a time. Say the verse together after each eraser. Eventually you will get to a completely blank board and the kids will know the scripture by heart.

b. Balloon Race
Write out the memory verse word-by-word on individual pieces of paper. Put those pieces of paper inside balloons (one per balloon). Have the kids race to pop the balloons by sitting on them and then put the verse in order.

c. First Letter Sentences
To help remember the Old or New Testament books, take the first letter in the book and assign a word to it that works in a sentence.

For instance:
Go Eat Lettuce Not Doughnuts (G= Genesis, E= Exodus, L= Leviticus, N= Numbers and D= Deuteronomy)
Joshua Judges Ruth (same as books)
Sausage Keeps Cold Every November (S= 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, C= 1 & 2 Chronicles, E= Ezra and N= Nehemiah)
John Pops Popcorn Every Sunday (J= Job, P= Psalms, P= Proverbs, E= Ecclesiastes and S= Song of Solomon)
Ilene Just Lost Every Dime (I= Isaiah, J= Jeremiah, L= Lamentations, E= Esther and D= Daniel)
Hank Just Approved Olivia Jones' Money (H= Hank, J= Joel, A= Amos, O= Obadiah and J= Jonah)
Never Hide Zebras Here Zack Mason (N= Nahum, H= Habakkuk, Z= Zephaniah, H= Haggai, Z= Zechariah M= Malachi)

The above are just suggested sentences. You might want to have your students come up with their own sentences.

Take care,
Connie G.
