1) Bad language?

I teach a preschool class at my church. There is a family that has been
causing trouble within the church. They're little boy is in my class and
he has a very bad mouth and he doesn't listen to anything I say. I don't
want to kick him out but, I don't want him influencing the other kids
either. What should I do?

"disruptive" into the search box:

2) Teaching the Books of the Bible

On the websites below, you can create as many "Bingo Cards" of just Old
Test, New Test or a mixture of both. I slipped them into the clear page
protectors that are already 3-hole punched so I could keep all of the
Bingo cards together and clean from finger smudges, etc. We also mounted
a different card to each side of the page - had the kids flip over their
card to have a new card to use rather than always passing out cards.

Wishing you a SON-shiny week ... Dori

The Parables of Jesus

Parables are "earthly stories with heavenly meaningsā€. This 12 week series
examines six parables that focus on "Faith", "God's Mercy", "Being
Merciful", "Obedience", "Prayer", and "Evangelism". Through the use of
hands-on Bible lessons, crafts and games, children will gain a better
understanding of these important truths. Can be incorporated into
rotation-type programs!  Learn more at:

4) Prayer Symbols

I saw all the postings on prayer and just thought I would share what I
started several months ago. I teach 3-8yr olds so need both lessons for
readers as well as non-readers.
Upon noticing my kids didn't know what nor how to pray, I did a two week
study on prayer. Just simple concepts, like how we always say "something"
in the mornings to people in our household before we start our day....we
should also talk to God each and every morning...after this two week
discussion on what prayer is and how as children they can pray, I brought
in my tools.  I found as many graphics that showed different things I
thought the kids would find interesting to pray for. ie: army people & the
flag = military, a picture of Abraham Lincoln = President, world flags =
missionaries, families = families, different weather pics =
seasons/weather, our favorites are a bunch of different expressions on
faces = attitudes &  one that has a street sign with lots of different
ways to go and a person looking puzzled = decisions! I placed maybe one
word under each picture, the kids draw (blindly) from a basket (I
lamentaed large index cards with pics glued on them) then they walk up to
our prayerboard (foam posterboard with pictures of praying or verses of
prayer on it) and they think up there own prayer for their card then they
thumbtack it to the prayerboard. After all kids pray we join hands in a
circle and I close us in prayer, trying to "sum-up" their prayers and
always add in the idea of God helping them to pray for their card all
week.  If anyone would like a copy of my pictures that I have put together
for ideas of their own just email me and I will send them to you

5) Calming Kids

>Does anyone have any suggestions, especially for the bus trips, to
>keep the kids calm during the long trip back to their homes?

What about having a praise time on the bus ride...with some sort of
incentive like each week a different song leader or two depending on how
long a trip it is? chosen from the best behaved children? or doing some
sort of seperation of seating that would be fun....like giving out
tickets/colored paper prior to getting on the bus (torn in half) the kids
would have to quickly & quietly find their seating partner maybe giving
them a task to do while finding their seats with their partner like
finding out their partners middle name/ pet's name etc....(making the list
of things as long as you needed, so you will still have time to ask the
first student off the bus their questions) then the leaders could call
order and going from front to back each person has to tell what they
learned about the other one. If this worked out well you could also use it
as a tool for the rides into church....when a child gets on the bus and
they start to pick their seat they have to say something new they know
about the person they are sitting with. Most times children will act out
on a bus ride because they are near their friends and want to "show-off"
if you do a random sitting arrangement some of this will be avoided. If
you have more than one adult on the busrides then maybe spacing them
throughout the bus will help deter some mis conduct as well.
hope my suggestions help
God bless

6) Lava Lava Leis

Our church is also using the Lava Lava Island VBS. We thought the crafts
were poor as well, they are more like glorified toys that the kids pop
together rather than an actual craft. One craft we are going to use is
having the kids make their own leis on the first day. Using construction
paper, cut drinking straws and yarn you can easily make nice flower leis.
The kids could use them all week long as part of their VBS costume.

Fruit of the Spirit Spinner

Children will learn the Fruit of the Spirit in a fun new way. Each
characteristic is illustrated with a whimsical cartoon fruit for kids to
color, cut, and spin.

7) Tea Bag Lesson

You have to use tea bags that are sealed in foil packets, such as Constant
Comment or Bigelow spice teas. Lipton does not work.  Also, this does not
work in certain parts of the country. We travel a lot doing Children's
ministry and teacher training, I cannot get it to work in Arizona.

8) Calming Kids

>I am a youth leader at a rural church that has recently, thank God, seen
>an explosion in youth attendance. .....

You did not mention the ages. I would suggest that you do an overall theme
at church of behavior standards then have the kids make up a list of
expected behaviors. I find if I can convince the kids that they have real
a say in how they are treated and for consequences for good and bad
behavior. I do not believe in bribing the kids. Mostly kids want to have more of
your time interacting. Find out what they like to do whether it is singing ,
storytelling or ?. The storytelling is enjoyed by a wide age range.
Someone starts off with a couple of lines and them someone else adds. The way I
determine who's turn it is by a speaking rock or stick. Whoever holds the
rock or stick is allowed to talk. Be clear in the rules and make sure you
have veto power. The kids can get very funny with this. Singing is really
enjoyed by our group. They can take popular music and change the words to
Christian. These activities involve some noise but a more controlled

9) Armor of God?

I would like to know if anyone has  craft ideas for a VBS based on the
Armor of God.  We will have children in different age groups so the level
of difficulty will be different.  The ages will be between 4-12.  Also, if
you have done this before, perhaps you can help me with the bible lessen.

there are crafts, games and song-time suggestions
to coordinate with the lesson.
